Losing Ismaël Saibari and Serge Gnabry was a lot for Bayern Munich to handle during the team’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker.
Then... Michael Olise had to leave the match in the 84th minute, which really sent fans spiraling.
The French winger was among the players who looked uncomfortable as the intensity of the Klassiker took its toll. Olise appeared to be carrying a knock, although the precise nature of the issue has not yet been established.
The incident occurred late in the second half following a challenge, after which Olise remained on the ground for several seconds, visibly grimacing and limping. He subsequently signaled to the bench that he could not continue, prompting Aaron Danks to bring on Lennart Karl.
The biggest concern is that it is not yet clear whether Olise suffered a knock from the challenge or a muscular injury. No definitive diagnosis or estimated recovery period has been reported as of yet.
This is particularly concerning given Bayern Munich’s already depleted attacking options. Luis Díaz is recovering from a muscle injury, Jamal Musiala remains sidelined, and both Ismaël Saibari and Serge Gnabry were forced off with injuries during the first half against Dortmund. Bayern also face Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.
For now, Olise’s condition will need to be assessed, with further examinations expected to clarify the extent of the problem. Bayern supporters will certainly be hoping this was precautionary rather than another significant injury.
