Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is set to remain in hospital for several days and will be missing for a number of weeks after collapsing at the club's training center on Friday.
The 40-year-old Belgian had recently been suffering from a virus and collapsed while observing a reserve team training session.
"The good news is he's stable," said Bayern's director of sport, Max Eberl, on Saturday. "I spoke with him last night, and with his wife too. It wasn't a nice moment for any of us. He collapsed on the pitch yesterday and will spend a few more days in hospital until everything is checked over."
Eberl said that doctors are "trying to find out what it is," adding: "The tests have already yielded some results, but further results are needed to determine exactly what it is and how long it will take for him to recover."
Eberl said it will be a while before Kompany is fit to return to work. "We're not talking in terms of days, but weeks," he said. "We're all clear on that."
Kompany will miss Bayern's game away at high-flying SC Freiburg on Sunday, with assistant coach Aaron Danks set to stand in for him. He will also miss next week's Bundesliga Klassiker at home to Borussia Dortmund and the difficult trip to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on November 3.
"It shows again that health is the most important thing in life, not football," said Eberl, stressing that Kompany will "only come back when he's fit."
Bayern will also travel to Freiburg on Sunday without captain Joshua Kimmich, whose father passed away aged 57 this week.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will also miss the game due to "persistent tendonitis" in his foot, as will defender Min-jae Kim, playmaker Jamal Musiala and forward Luiz Diaz.
