Coming into their Week 8 matchup against the Jets, the Raiders were riding two streaks they didn't want. One was a four-game losing streak. The other was a streak of five consecutive games giving up at least 27 points.
The former they ended on Sunday with a win over the Jets and the Raiders evened their win/loss record at 4-4. The latter, went from a tie for the longest streak in franchise history, to setting a new mark, while tying the record for consecutive games giving up at least 30 games (five)
One streak now sits at six games, the other at five games... and counting.
It was only thanks to the heroics in the other two facets of the game that the Raiders were able to overcome the 33 points the defense allowed to score 38 points to get the win.
If the defense gets any credit at all, it's that, despite giving up scores on each of the Jets' first six possessions, three of them were field goals.
The Raiders offense, on the other hand, scored four touchdowns, with special teams nothing a touchdown as well on a 95-yard kick return by Dylan Laube. The Raiders only field goal was the one that put the Raiders up five points late and kept the Jets from driving for what would have been a game-winning field goal of their own.
Jets QB Geno Smith had a solid day throwing the ball, making several deep connections with his receivers, including six completions of 20 yards or more. Meanwhile Braelon Allen ran for 147 yards on 21 carries for an average of seven yards per carry. Those runs included a 21-yard touchdown.
While the Raiders offense was able to eventually pull ahead, they won't be able to continue this way and expect to survive against more capable teams like the 49ers, Seahawks, and Broncos -- their next three opponents.
