Totoa Avuaa sacked by Saracens after St Albans punch up

Tota Auvaa, who was involved in a nightclub incident with England cricketers Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson during the summer, left the Gallagher Prem club on Monday following an incident last week.

Auvaa, 21, was initially stood down before Saracens sacked him with immediate effect after an internal investigation found his conduct fell below the required standards.

Herts police are investigating an altercation in St Peter’s Street between 2.15am and 2.20am on Sunday, October 11.

“It is alleged a man aged in his 20s was approached by another man who then punched him to the face,” a spokesperson said.

"Enquiries are ongoing at this time."

In June, a member of England’s cricket security team needed medical attention after being struck by the Samoan forward at a London nightclub.

Stokes, then England captain, and fast bowler Atkinson were present. A disciplinary hearing found both had breached their contracts but cleared them of violent conduct.

Saracens said they would not comment further on Auvaa’s departure.

A club statement announcing his sacking on Monday, October 12, said: “Following an incident this weekend, the club has determined that his conduct falls short of the standards expected of everyone who represents Saracens, both on and off the pitch.

“We take our responsibilities to our supporters, young people and partners seriously and we remain committed to upholding the standards of our conduct expected across the club.”
