The Golden State Warriors have had a rough start to the 2026-27 NBA season, and Stephen Curry did not hide his frustration after their heartbreaking loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. What made the defeat worse was how close Golden State came to winning before letting the game slip away late.
Curry called the loss a tough one to accept after the Warriors surrendered a double-digit lead in the final minutes. The team has since suffered another defeat, falling to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday to drop to 0-3 for the season.
The Warriors hosted Memphis at Chase Center in San Francisco on Friday, hoping to secure their first win of the season after losing their opener 127-105 to the Los Angeles Lakers. Instead, they suffered another frustrating defeat, losing 111-108 despite appearing to have the game under control late in the fourth quarter.
Curry was understandably frustrated with how the game unfolded. He acknowledged that the Warriors had played well enough to put themselves in a position to win, only to lose control when it mattered most.
“Pretty much everything went wrong,” Curry said post-game. “It’s a tough pill to swallow, considering we played really solid, especially in that second half, to give ourselves a lead and be in control of the game for as long as we did. It’s a tough one.”
Golden State had trailed by as many as 13 points earlier in the game but fought back and took a 106-94 lead after De’Anthony Melton knocked down a 23-foot three-pointer with 3:47 remaining.
From there, however, the game completely turned.
Memphis went on a stunning 17-0 run, turning a 12-point deficit into a five-point lead. The Warriors suddenly found themselves trailing 111-106 with just 10.2 seconds left, leaving them with little time to recover.
Rookie Cam Boozer hit the go-ahead jumper with 20 seconds remaining, helping Memphis complete the comeback and handing Golden State another painful loss.
The loss dropped Golden State to 0-2 at the time, leaving the team searching for answers early in the season.
Unfortunately for Steve Kerr’s side, things did not improve in their next outing.
Golden State faced the Phoenix Suns on Saturday without Curry, and the team struggled again, falling 131-122. The back-to-back defeats left the Warriors winless through their first three games of the 2026-27 campaign.
For Golden State, which had hoped to make a strong start to the season, the results have been disappointing. The team will return to action against the Denver Nuggets on Monday, hoping to have Curry back in the lineup and turn things around.
