With criticism mounting against Manchester United co-owners INEOS, they have confirmed a fan ban for this weekend.

INEOS officially confirm fans banned from Sunday fixture

INEOS and the Glazer family have faced relentless criticism from Manchester United supporters as frustration with the club’s ownership continues to intensify.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed his minority investment in United in February 2024, taking control of football operations while the Glazers retained majority ownership.

However, unpopular cost-cutting measures, ticketing controversies and disappointing performances have damaged confidence in the leadership.

United’s summer recruitment has also come under scrutiny, particularly the failure to sign a specialist defender despite obvious weaknesses across the back line.

Those shortcomings have become increasingly apparent amid injuries, forcing Michael Carrick to improvise with his defensive selections.

Young centre-back Ayden Heaven was deployed at left-back against Atletico Madrid, while Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui were subsequently used on the left against Como.

Wednesday’s humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat in Italy exposed those problems again, extending United’s winless run to seven matches.

Supporter frustration has been unmistakable, with boos accompanying recent disappointing performances and protests targeting the ownership.

Before September’s Manchester derby, demonstrators gathered outside Old Trafford to protest ticketing restrictions and the treatment of supporters.

Ratcliffe reportedly entered the stadium through an alternative entrance as chants against INEOS and the Glazers echoed outside.

Now, another football club associated with Ratcliffe’s sporting empire has confirmed significant restrictions affecting supporters ahead of Sunday’s fixture.

Swiss club FC Lausanne-Sport have officially confirmed that their supporters will be barred from the designated away section for Sunday’s derby against FC Sion.

In a statement published on their official website, Lausanne explained that the authorities imposed reciprocal restrictions following serious incidents during a previous derby.

The decision forms part of the PROGRESSO procedure and applies to the next two meetings between the clubs.

For Sunday’s match at the Stade de Tourbillon, the visiting section will remain closed, with Lausanne urging their supporters not to travel to Sion.

The club also confirmed that no special trains, official escorts or organised travel arrangements will be provided.

Lausanne stressed the importance of reducing tensions and preserving the historic rivalry, calling for supporters to demonstrate responsibility away from the pitch.

The restrictions concern the Swiss fixture only and have no bearing on Manchester United’s upcoming match against Bournemouth.
