Los Angeles Lakers star Ziaire Williams has shared his view on new teammate Walker Kessler.

There is a host of new faces on the LA Lakers this season, with Rob Pelinka extremely busy in free agency trying to reconstruct the roster.

The major changes saw LeBron James depart, while the Lakers executed a trade for Walker Kessler. They then added depth in free agency, with former Nets star Ziaire Williams among the additions.

Williams spoke at training camp ahead of the Lakers’ latest preseason game, and he was asked about Walker Kessler.

He gave a glowing review, explaining that Kessler will make his defensive tasks easier when they are sharing the court together.

“I love Walker. He’s gonna be so good for us. Looked great his first game out.

“We got a lot of practice reps together. He’s great, man. As a defender who picks up full court and guards all these skilled and crafty cats, there’s nothing better than knowing you have a defensive anchor behind you that has your back at all times and is going to protect the rim for you.

“So we definitely need him.”

Kessler has had rave reviews so far, with former Lakers star Derek Fisher among those to express his excitement about the big man’s skill set.

Ziaire Williams setting high targets

Any team with Luka Doncic has a chance to compete for the NBA Championship, and Ziaire Williams is aiming high.

He added: “We’re expecting a high standard to win, go far, and hopefully win it all. But it takes day by day, one day at a time.”

After two years battling for NBA Draft Lottery picks in Brooklyn, Williams appears to be enthused by the challenge of competing at the top end of the league. And who can blame him?
