Celtic demand issued to Dermot Desmond for fan forgiveness as Hotline maps out end to civil war

The phones were red hot as the fallout from a bumper weekend of Premiership action continued

The weekend's football action is in the rear view mirror - but the aftershock of Celtic's demolition of Hearts can still be felt.

The Glasgow giants swept aside Wouter Vrancken's men in a 7-1 drubbing - just months after the Jambos were minutes away from a historic Scottish Premiership title.

Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, reckons the display looked like a Hoops side from a bygone era - and says that should lead to one conclusion from principal shareholder Dermot Desmond: "Finally Celtic fans were treated to a feast of vintage Celtic football with fast flowing creative play at pace by two wingers capable of skinning the Hearts' defence.

"It was delightful to watch a domestic game but in Europe to be competitive, the team still needs a midfield enforcer with a stiffening of the defence to make its mark again in European competition. Come on, Dermot, cough up the cash to bring in the quality players the team needs and all will be forgiven."

William Hutchison, Aberdeen, was keen to crack a joke at the expense of the Jambos: "I see a new Scottish delicacy along with deep fried foods has been invented on Sunday..BATTERED JAM TARTS."

Hugh McKirdy believes a bigger problem has emerged than just problems at Tynecastle: "I don't like saying it and as an Aberdeen fan we're part of it, but the standard in our top league is getting poorer. Celtic's demolition of Hearts was mostly down to inept defending, albeit Celtic did their part. When all of our teams play in Europe though we're thoroughly spanked usually."

Hearts' Calvin Miller looks dejected

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton expected that the game would be uncomfortable viewing for one man - the Rangers manager. He said: "I expect Derek McInnes quickly changed his telly over to a repeat episode of Columbo after watching Celtic take a two goal lead after only ten minutes. To win by such a margin against the league runners up was nothing short of sensational and even more frustrating for McInnes must have been that his former set piece coach was instrumental in the first two goals."

Speaking of Rangers, Stuart McLeod took a surprise stance - leaping to the defence of Dundee defender Ethan Hamilton after their draw with the Light Blues.

Taking aim at referee Duncan Nicholson, he said: "Unusually I am on to complain about a decision that went in my team's favour. Ethan Hamilton was booked for Dundee on Saturday evening and in my opinion it was never a yellow card. I thought he was excellent in the engine room for Dundee and stupid yellow cards for these incidents curb the enthusiasm of that type of player. Gazza was one of my favourite Rangers players and always played with his arms up but he wouldn't last 10 minutes in this environment."

Dundee boss Steven Pressley has steered the Dark Blues to fourth spot so far this term - and Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny reckons that both Hibs and Hearts could be considering the gaffer.

He said: "Steven Pressley, Dundee manager, gets a well deserved draw against Rangers but my fear Is Steven has potential to be a bigger manager with the right club, not being disrespectful. The way Hibs new manager Marink Reedijk is underperforming, taking them to the bottom of the Premiership. The Hibees Hierarchy may try to poach him from the Dens. Hibs are caught in a trap under the Dutchman and should have stuck with David Gray. Both Hearts and Hibs managers' coats on a shoogly peg."
