Fines are suddenly a hot topic around Old Trafford this week.
Lisandro Martinez is expected to be punished by United for his outburst at Atletico Madrid, with club sources saying a fine is inevitable.
Michael Carrick’s side have won just two of their nine matches this season, and head to Elland Road on Sunday.
United were at the centre of a disciplinary story involving another club too.
It stems from a draw they rescued at Craven Cottage last month, which ended with their opponents’ manager seething about the officials.
Fulham head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has been fined £25,000 and warned by the FA for comments made after that 1-1 draw on Sunday 20 September.
The FA explained on their website that he acted in an improper manner by making comments in a post-match interview that imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official.
Alvaro Arbeloa admitted the charge, and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed the sanctions after a hearing.
“All fouls for them. You can see before they scored, the foul against Maguire, he’s a guy who is 100 kilos.
“Every decision was for them.”
“And I knew. I knew after the game against Man City that they [would not] let Manchester United lose here. We deserved a little bit more.”
“We were so close. So, so close. We were a little bit unlucky again. We knew it would be difficult against this big team.”
“Also we knew what happened last week. We have seen what the referees have been doing all the match so it was a difficult game. And we were unlucky.”
United had been poor for long spells that afternoon, falling behind in the 63rd minute when Calvin Bassey robbed Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens parried his shot and the ball bounced in off Martinez.
Cunha’s deflected strike in the 89th minute rescued a point, 35 seconds after a free-kick for Cesar Palacios’s challenge on Harry Maguire, which Arbeloa did not believe was a foul.
Fulham remain bottom with two points.
