NBA Championship hopefuls, the Oklahoma City Thunder, have been ravaged by injuries through their first four games of the season, with some of their most notable players suffering potentially season-ending blows.

The blows have seen one of the team's most important players be sidelined for an extended period of time, and, after a day or so of silence across his social media pages, he has now spoken for the first time since the gruesome injury.

Cason Wallace, one of the team's more reliable role players, suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder, which is set to keep him out for several months, and potentially the entire season. But in the very same game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night, one of the team's most important players was forced to be stretchered off the court thanks to a gruesome injury.

Jalen Williams' Serious Injury

With just over a minute left in the final quarter and the Thunder fighting to extend their four-point lead, Jalen Williams went up for a lay-up but came down and landed awkwardly on top of his foot.

In a now viral video, the official broadcaster caught the seriousness of the injury on camera as it appeared his left foot was pointing in the wrong direction in the aftermath of the brutal fall.

The gruesome-looking injury was immediately recognised by teammates and staff around him as support was immediately ushered onto the court, and the reigning MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, broke down in tears feeling devastated for his teammate.

He was then carted off the court on a stretcher, putting his thumbs up towards fans to demonstrate that he was okay, but two thumbs couldn't hide the emotion on his face as he realised the severity of his injury.

The franchise announced on Monday that the injured pair would undergo surgery to address the two injuries, but, after being diagnosed with a dislocated left ankle and a fractured fibula, it looks like he will be out for a while.

According to reports from Shams Charania, ESPN's senior NBA insider, both Williams and Wallace will be sidelined for at least several months as they focus on their recovery. The reality, however, is that they may miss the entirety of this NBA season.

Williams Breaks Silence After Tribute

Oklahoma City found their way to honour one of their star players after the awful injury, projecting a giant Thunder number eight at the very top of the Devon Tower in downtown Oklahoma City.

In response to the honour, Williams said: "Throw a 22 on der too."

Despite suffering a potentially season-ending injury, Williams' first response was to suggest his teammate should also be recognised following an injury of his own.

This isn't the NBA All-Star's first rodeo with extended injuries. The Thunder star missed large amounts of last season due to repeated hamstring strains and even exited game seven of the Western Conference Finals, in which the Thunder fell to the Spurs.

Williams finished last season with just 33 games played while averaging 17.1 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game, demonstrating his importance to the franchise when he is healthy.

The 25-year-old also played a key part in securing the 2024-2025 NBA Championship for the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 23.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in the seven-game series against the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals.

Despite losing two key players, the Thunder bounced back in their game against the Phoenix Suns on Monday night as they secured a 114-125 win, led by Ajay Mitchell's 30 points.

The injuries will no doubt be a blow to the franchise, but, with the reigning MVP, one of the best NBA players right now, surrounded by elite level talent, the Thunder will remain hard to beat for the remainder of this NBA season.
