The New Jersey Devils had a three-goal lead, a packed Prudential Center and about six minutes of peace left in the third. Then St. Louis scored three times in 3:08, Connor Hellebuyck got hung out to dry on a turnover, and suddenly it was 4-4. Jesper Bratt fixed it 1:26 into overtime on a breakaway feed from Dougie Hamilton, and the Devils somehow walked out with a 5-4 win. Anthony Mantha had two goals and an assist. Hellebuyck stopped 28 for his fourth straight win since the trade. New Jersey is 11-5-0 and has taken three in a row.

I have the full recap below. Around the league, Simon Edvinsson is skating on Predators ice while the Dec. 1 clock ticks, Chris Johnston says the pressure is on Shawn Horcoff to move Dylan Larkin and Edvinsson, Dawson Mercer scored his first as a Jet, and the Islanders just signed Ben Hutton a day before the Devils visit UBS Arena. The links are below.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now

Chris Johnston joins Gino Reda on Early Trading to discuss the pressure on Detroit Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff to get the right deals done for Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson, where things stand between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Nikita Kucherov, and what the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks are hunting. The segment posted Thursday afternoon.

Max Smith writes that Simon Edvinsson is still skating in the United States, with private ice at the Nashville Predators’ facilities while agent JP Barry and Pat Brisson’s CAA office are in the city, per the Tennessean. The Red Wings have less than a month before the Dec. 1 signing deadline for the unsigned restricted free agent. Horcoff has said he has no appetite to trade Edvinsson, and Elliotte Friedman has said recent San Jose chatter involving Michael Misa has been overblown. Smith argues both sides owe the players currently in the lineup a resolution.

John Kreiser writes that the New York Rangers rallied twice in the third to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in their Hometown Remix debut at Madison Square Garden. Pavel Dorofeyev tied it on the power play at 13:52, and Tye Kartye scored the winner 1:29 later off an Adam Fox feed. It was New York’s first come-from-behind win of the season. The Rangers improved to 9-7-2 and an NHL-best 8-2-0 at home.

The New York Islanders signed defenseman Ben Hutton to a one-year contract on Thursday after a short PTO. Hutton, 33, had six goals and 15 points in 55 games with the Vegas Golden Knights last season and reached the Stanley Cup Final. The Islanders host the Devils on Saturday at UBS Arena.

The Canadian Press reports that Dawson Mercer scored his first goal in a Winnipeg Jets uniform and added an assist in a 6-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Mark Scheifele also had a goal and an assist, and rookie Viggo Bjorck picked up his first NHL point. It was Winnipeg’s second straight win after Tuesday’s historic comeback in Montreal. Mercer called it a relief to get the first one at home in a win.

Jack Studley writes that the Boston Bruins routed the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 for their third straight win. Pavel Zacha scored twice, and Mark Kastelic, Elias Lindholm, Morgan Geekie and Fraser Minten each added one. Michael DiPietro made 16 saves in his fourth straight win. James Hagens left early after a cross-check from Samuel Girard and did not return; coach Marco Sturm had no update after the game. The Bruins are 12-4-1.

Aarif Deen has the Colorado Avalanche dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to the Nashville Predators at Ball Arena. Ross Colton scored against his former club at 4:01 of the first, Vitali Pinchuk roofed his first NHL goal later in the period, and Parker Kelly tied it in the second. Steven Stamkos won it on a four-on-three power play at 2:18 of overtime after Devon Toews took a penalty, Stamkos’ 247th career power-play goal tying Luc Robitaille for fifth all-time. Justus Annunen stopped 30 of 32; Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 22 of 25. The Predators (7-4-5) have won three straight. Colorado is 9-6-2 and hosts Detroit on Saturday.
