San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is just five passes away from having the highest career passer rating in NFL history.
The record is currently held by Lamar Jackson (102.7). Purdy’s rating is actually already higher than that (105.4) but he does not qualify for the record yet (1,500 career passing attempts needed).
However, he will break that record once he has thrown five more passes, even if they are all straight interceptions.
But while it is an impressive record, Purdy has now played down its importance, suggesting he is more focused on the team.
When asked what the rating means to him in a recent interview, Purdy said: “I guess it’s a good thing but at the same time I’m not getting done with games and going ‘Alright, was my rating at least 100 and something?’
“I could really care less about that. It’s more so ‘Did I do my job well for my teammates? Did I compete and do everything I could to help this team win?’”
The response has gone down well with a number of fans, who have been quick to praise Purdy’s mentality.
One wrote: “Love the mentality. Stay humble, and grateful to just be playing at that level.”

Another commented: “Yep. That’s exactly the mentality you need.”
A third stated: “So glad we got this kid. Epitomises greatness and leadership. Everything you want in a QB.”
“Love his mentality. If the team doesn’t just fall apart because of injuries, Brock will get us a Super Bowl win eventually. Let’s hope this year will be the first of several,” added another.
Another added: “I love this guy. We need more Brock Purdy’s in this world.”
A sixth echoed: “I love his mentality and dedication to his team. Brock Purdy has lots of motivation to stay hungry, but he does it in such a humble manner.”
“How can you not like this man? A true team player. GOAT,” responded a seventh.
Purdy is expected to break the record this coming Monday when the 49ers play host to the Washington Commanders.
