Tottenham Hotspur seem to have turned a corner after three consecutive Premier League wins. After a six-game winless run, they have picked up wins over Coventry City, Chelsea and Crystal Palace.
One player who has not been involved after the opening weekend’s defeat to Brentford is Richarlison. The 29-year-old has quickly become a forgotten man at White Hart Lane after being exiled from the Premier League squad by Roberto De Zerbi. The forward’s future at the club has been uncertain since the summer transfer window slammed shut, when proposed moves to Everton and Vasco da Gama failed to materialise.
The Brazilian international looks guaranteed to leave Spurs in the upcoming January window as he enters the final six months of his contract, and some clubs have already begun doing groundwork on a potential deal.
Richarlison’s failure to find a route at Spurs has proved costly. De Zerbi has left the player out of his core plans, forcing him to settle for minutes with the U21S. Recently it emerged that Tottenham were interested in signing Marseille forward Amine Gouiri in the final days of the summer transfer window, but the move did not go through because of their failure to offload either Richarlison or Dominic Solanke.
The Brazilian will get an opportunity to leave the club when the transfer window reopens in January, and Tottenham are looking to help facilitate his departure. According to a report from RTI Esporte (h/t Terra), Tottenham have reduced their valuation of Richarlison to €10m. The North London outfit had previously been asking for as much as €25m during the summer transfer window.
This represents a big change in Tottenham’s transfer strategy on Richarlison. By taking such a step, they have made it abundantly clear that they want to offload the South American star permanently off their books. The mid-season trading period gives our club the final opportunity to get some fee from the 29-year-old’s sale.
The Lilywhites were understood to have rejected an offer worth around €10m from Vasco da Gama in the summer, but that same figure could now be enough to secure the player’s signature if the latest claims are true. The report adds that the Brazilian club are now exploring the possibility of signing the Tottenham outcast at a reduced fee. They could make contact to establish the Premier League club’s demands and the player’s wishes.
After not seeing any competitive action since August 22, Richarlison will be desperate to play. Last month, the versatile attacker started for the club’s U21S in a 2–2 draw (7–6 loss on penalties) against Cheltenham Town in the EFL Trophy, scoring a goal in regular time and converting his penalty in the shootout.
Although it looks like the Lilywhites still have a big say, in reality, they are not demanding a lot, purely because Richarlison has played just once this season and his contract expires in June 2027.
