‘He Looked Bewildered at Times’ — Richard Sherman Credits Seahawks’ Defense for Leaving Patrick Mahomes ‘Confused’

The Seattle Seahawks welcomed Patrick Mahomes, Kenneth Walker III, and the Kansas City Chiefs for Sunday Night Football and completely shut them down.

It was a night when Walker was supposed to have his revenge game, returning to Seattle for the first time since the Seahawks let him walk in free agency.

Instead, Seattle completely shut down Walker and kept Patrick Mahomes from moving the ball. Former Seahawks star Richard Sherman believed the Chiefs’ star looked “confused” on Sunday.

Richard Sherman Impressed With Seahawks’ Complete Performance vs. Chiefs

The 2026 NFL season has been one of surprises. Every time you think you have a team figured out, something else happens.

The Chiefs looked like the best team in the NFL coming into the weekend, and the defending Super Bowl champions had lost three of their last four games.

But Seattle reminded everyone of what it’s capable of on Sunday night, holding the Chiefs without a red zone trip — which is as crazy as it sounds when Mahomes is under center.

Sherman took to his podcast on Monday to credit his former team for their outstanding performance.

“Mahomes struggled mightily with this defense. He looked bewildered at times,” Sherman said. “He looked confused, perplexed, vexed. Whatever you want to say. He looked like a guy who did not want to be in Seattle. The defense deserves a ton of credit.”

The Super Bowl champion continued by crediting Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori, who did it all on Sunday night, whether it was tackles in the backfield, creating pressure, or locking down pass catchers.

The Chiefs put up their worst offensive performance of the season and the worst of any team in Week 7 (prior to Monday Night Football), according to PFN’s Offense Impact Metric, on which they rank eighth in the league.

On the other side, the Seahawks had the best defensive performance of the week, based on PFN’s Defense Impact Metric.

“I don’t know many games where you hear that the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes and K9 and Andy Reid and everything they bring to the table and they did not enter the red zone in Seattle,” Sherman said. “This team looked like they found themselves again. I thought the Seattle Seahawks on both sides of the ball were the better team, far and away. Could be a potential Super Bowl preview.

“I’m not sure the Kansas City Chiefs want to see the Seattle Seahawks team again.”

The Seahawks defense played unbelievably, but it wasn’t just that side of the ball that showed up.

Even when you know Seattle wants to get the ball to Jaxon Smith-Njigba on offense, it still finds a way to do so.

The receiver’s elusiveness and ability to bring in every throw that comes his way is special.

Smith-Njigba finished the night with nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown.
