One veteran NFL kicker's horrific start to the season has led many to call for him to be dropped from his franchise entirely.

It's been a troubled few months for the NFL star, who in years gone by was instrumental to his organisation as a reliable source of output. Fast-forward to 2026, however, and you would be forgiven for thinking the field goal specialist is not the same person.

The go-to man looked at to provide the all-important field goals, a misfiring kicker can not only eradicate any hopes of success in a given match, but also hamper the chance of making the playoffs in the postseason.

It is no surprise, then, that this high-stakes role is well compensated, with the athlete in question, one of the highest-paid kickers in the NFL, currently on a four-year, bumper $25.6 million contract that still has $11.7 million owed.

But, despite one of the biggest contracts amongst NFL kickers that would require no small amount of legal headaches to get off the books, fans and media personalities alike are all calling for the same thing - cut Harrison Butker from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fans & Pundits Call For Kicker to Be Dropped

The three-time Super Bowl winner has had a considerable fall from grace. Once viewed as a safe bet in the NFL for field goals, the stats have made for uncomfortable reading for the Chiefs' record holder for single-season field goals.

This season has already become historic for Butker for all the wrong reasons. In seven games, he has already misfired on six field goal attempts. A concerning number of misses, magnified even more by the fact that the Chiefs' formerly dependable kicker only missed five FGs over the course of the 2025 season.

The latest inaccurate kick by the 31-year-old, a 54-yard effort, confirmed Kansas' defeat to the Denver Broncos last Sunday in a slender 28-24 loss. Butker's performance on the night only fuelled the calls to cut him loose, with former Broncos wide receiver Shannon Sharpe leading the attack.

"Butker is about to be unemployed. Hasn’t been the same in a couple of years. Wonder what happened?"

Fans were also quick to pile on the pressure, demanding one of the league's most established names be removed.

"He needs to be cut. He’s just not the same kicker he used to be. Completely undeserving roster spot."

After recording career-high FG misses this season and with Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker having been hastily recruited to the roster, the end of a glittering NFL career that few could have predicted may soon be upon us.
