Celtic injury boost as Yang Hyun-jun returns to training

The South Korean winger has recovered from the hamstring injury that kept him out of action, rejoining the first-team group ahead of Thursday night's match against Besiktas.

His return provides an additional attacking option for Martin O'Neill as the club seeks their first Europa League points this season.

Yang was managing the injury while on international duty as South Korea went on to claim the Asian Games title.

The 24-year-old, selected as an overage player, missed the latter stages of the tournament due to his injury.

O'Neill had hinted at Yang's recovery last week, stating: "He starts back with us on Monday; we’ll see how he is before the beginning of the international break."

Now, the Celtic boss faces the decision of whether to bring Yang back into action against Besiktas or to gradually reintegrate him into the team.

Yang was in impressive form before his setback, and his return could provide a much-needed boost for O'Neill.

Celtic have been utilising different options in the wide areas, with Haissem Hassan and Camilo Duran featuring on the right, and Callum Osmand and Jota on the left.

Yang's last appearance for Celtic was in the 2-1 Premiership win over St Mirren, in which he scored.

He might face a familiar opponent on Thursday, as former Celtic striker and South Korea team-mate Oh Hyeon-gyu is now part of the Besiktas squad.
