Aston Villa are set to visit Camp Nou to take on Barcelona in the Champions League this midweek.

Aston Villa begin to go through their toughest week. They are traveling to the Catalan to take on Barcelona on Tuesday night. It will be their first time to play there after their last encounter in UEFA Super Cup 1982, which took place in January 1983. It was the first leg of their duel as it was still using the two-legged game format.

Both Barcelona and Aston Villa have not been in their best form lately. Hans Flick’s men have been beaten twice in a row last week against PSG and El Classico at their home turf before returning to their winning ways while running rampant in a 6-1 victory over Alaves last weekend.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s side failed to secure another win at home last weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Fulham. Lady luck did not seem to be on their side in that game as Villa’s captain missed the penalty at the first half. Fulham’s equalizer in that game was not entirely build up from a fancy attacking move but rather a gift from Zion Suzuki.

Emery needs to employ the proper tactics to expose Barcelona’s defensive frailties and hope to avoid a defeat in this match to keep their position in the standing.

Villa’s head-to-head record against the Catalan giant is quite even. Both sides have met four times. The Lions only won once, lost twice and shared spoils once. All encounters were held in two different competitions, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
