Bayern Munich’s injury crisis reached new heights as the much-anticipated fixture against Borussia Dortmund ended with four new injuries.

In the first half, Bayern lost Ismael Saibari to an ankle injury, which was later revealed to be a syndesmosis tear. Since then, the Moroccan has undergone surgery and, per Bild (via@iMiaSanMia), is expected to be out for at least three months. Bavarian Football Works covered the news initially here.

Shortly afterward, Serge Gnabry also had to leave the pitch. The German international has had recurring muscular problems, having torn or injured his hamstrings five times so far. Most recently, he suffered a right adductor muscle tear which ruled him out of the World Cup in June. Bild has reported that Gnabry has picked up a hamstring injury and will not be available for four to six weeks.

Towards the end of the game, Michael Olise too signaled that he was injured. Per Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), there is still no exact diagnosis, and his availability for the Champions League fixture against Atlético Madrid remains doubtful. The club is hoping that he will be fit in time, but as of now, we will have to wait to see what his exact condition is.

Lastly, Jonas Urbig joins the list of the injured. The goalkeeper is reported to have appeared dazed after he was struck in the head by Carney Chukwuemeka. After the game, Urbig joked about the incident: “Everything’s okay, except I took two knees to the face,” he said, per Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Bayern Munich certainly will not take this lightly and has been monitoring him for any further problems. He will most certainly not feature in the fixture against Atlético if he develops signs of a concussion. Manuel Neuer was earlier ruled out due to persistent pain and swelling from tendinitis, and it has been reported that he will not be fit for the game either.

Bayern may be facing Atléti with a paper-thin squad, but it is more important that no player is rushed through recovery just to keep up with the schedule.
