A clever decision from Joe Scally led to the opening goal for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The American defender was the target of a cross in the box in the 38th minute of his team's Bundesliga visit to Stuttgart, but he couldn't win the ball. Instead, it was cleared toward the top of the area where Scally's teammate Zento Uno hit a shot off the volley.
As the Stuttgart goalkeeper Dennis Seimen prepared to stop that effort, Scally used his right foot to flick the ball into the goal, with the goalkeeper unable to deal with the change in direction and watching as the ball went into his net.
It's the third goal this season for Scally, who also scored in an Oct. 11 match against Koln and a Sept. 5 date with Elversberg.
The 23-year-old will hope to continue impressing in Germany to earn a call for November's Concacaf Nations League contests against Haiti.
Scally made U.S. men's national team manager Mauricio Pochettino's World Cup roster, playing 10 minutes as a substitute in the second group game against Australia and starting the third group match against Turkey as Pochettino's fielded an alternate squad.
