Sir David Beckham takeover target officially confirms sale collapse

Amid calls for the Glazers and INEOS to sell Manchester United, Sir David Beckham has received a fresh development involving a club takeover.

Sir David Beckham takeover target officially confirms sale collapse

Sir David Beckham remains one of Manchester United’s greatest icons, having helped define an extraordinary era of success under Sir Alex Ferguson.

From his unforgettable halfway-line goal against Wimbledon in 1996 to his two crucial corner deliveries against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final, Beckham produced moments that will forever belong to Old Trafford folklore.

The Class of ’92 graduate won six Premier League titles and the historic Treble before departing for Real Madrid in 2003.

More than two decades later, the club he once represented finds itself in a completely different position.

The Glazer family remain majority owners, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS control football operations following his investment in 2024.

Supporters have grown increasingly furious with both parties, particularly over recruitment failures, controversial cost-cutting measures and rising ticket prices.

During Sunday’s humiliating 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth, fans directed X-rated chants towards the Glazers and Ratcliffe as United’s miserable season continued.

Meanwhile, Beckham has established himself as an influential figure in football ownership, holding interests in Inter Miami and Salford City.

That experience has fuelled speculation about his involvement in another ambitious takeover project, which has now suffered a significant setback.

Sir David Beckham learns of major takeover development

French club FC Nantes have officially confirmed that owner Waldemar Kita has terminated negotiations to sell the club to Phenix Capital.

Beckham was linked with a potential Nantes takeover in August, although RMC Sport subsequently reported that the possibility of his involvement had been ruled out.

Another proposal later emerged involving businessman Paulo Tavares, with former Real Madrid defender Marcelo identified as a potential ambassador for the project.

However, Nantes announced on 22 October that exclusive negotiations, which began on 28 September, had collapsed.

In an official statement, the club explained that Phenix Capital failed to provide the promised financial guarantees or complete the documentation required for approval from French football’s financial regulator, the DNCG.

Kita consequently declared the proposed transaction obsolete and ended all discussions, questioning the seriousness of the takeover project.

Crucially, this collapsed agreement was separate from Beckham’s earlier reported interest.

The decision leaves Nantes under Kita’s ownership, with another potential change of control falling apart.
