Liverpool are not “immediately” planning to sign a midfielder despite their interest in Bournemouth star Alex Scott, according to The Athletic.
Article continues under the videoScott is developing a reputation as one of the finest midfielders in the Premier League having sparkled for Bournemouth in recent seasons.
The 23-year-old played a significant role in the Cherries qualifying for this season’s Europa League by finishing sixth last term - their highest-ever finish.
His stock has also risen following his breakthrough with England, making his senior debut against Czechia in the Nations League in September.
BBC Sport claims Chelsea and Liverpool are both admirers of Scott, who is keen to leave Bournemouth after turning down offers to renew his contract.
However, The Athletic understands the Reds consider themselves “well-stocked” in midfield, despite holding Scott in high regard.
In a piece featuring additional reporting from David Ornstein, The Athletic says Liverpool have faith in young duo Trey Nyoni and James McConnell.
Liverpool also have midfielders Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo on the books.
Chelsea meanwhile have identified Scott as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, who joined Manchester City on deadline day in September.
BBC Sport claims the Blues had a €75.9million (£64m) bid rejected by Bournemouth for Scott in the summer transfer window.
Bournemouth are willing to listen to offers for Scott in January provided they are over the €117m (£100m) mark, BBC Sport also understands.
Regarded as one of the best ball-carrying midfielders in England, Scott joined Bournemouth from Bristol City for €29.5m (£25m) in August 2023.
He has registered seven goals and as many assists in 95 appearances for the south-coast club, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2028.
Scott played under Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth and the pair are believed to hold a positive relationship.
Liverpool and Chelsea were both victorious on Saturday after recording Premier League wins over Brentford and Everton respectively.
Bournemouth, on the other hand, are hoping to build on their Europa League win over Sturm Graz on Thursday by beating Sunderland at the Vitality Stadium today.
Scott will miss the game, however, as he remains sidelined with the thigh injury he sustained while on international duty with England.
