Arsenal get back to winning ways after a disappointing draw against Aston Villa with a win against Liverpool on Sunday.

The win comes thanks to Arsenal striker Alessia Russo, who's first half brace secured all three points for the Gunners despite Liverpool getting one back.

Her first goal came before ten minutes on the clock, with Emily Fox crossing the ball into the centre of the Liverpool box for the striker to hit it past Khiara Keating and into the back of the net.

Russo's second came on the brink of half-time, this time using her head to score after she forced herself into the space in the box to get onto the end of Lisa Baum's cross.

Arsenal went into half time 2-1 up against the Reds at Anfield Stadium, and then went on to take the three points home with them.

Arsenal Player Ratings

Misa Rodríguez -- 6

Misa Rodríguez had a so and so day in the Arsenal net, conceding a goal which could have been prevented from the defence and by the Spanish goal keeper herself. The Spanish goal keeper should be thankful for the offside flag after it disallowed Liverpool's equaliser.

It will be a question of who plays against Barcelona in the UEFA Women's Champions League on Thursday with Misa struggling in the net for a while and Anneke Borbe fighting for her place.

Emily Fox -- 6

Fox got an assist during the first half for helping Russo score her first goal of the game, and like usual she goes unnoticed but puts in a solid performance week in, week out.

Leah Williamson -- 6

Leah Williamson did not have a great first half against Liverpool, being the only outfield player between Beata Olsson and her goalkeeper which ultimately allowed the Reds back into the game.

Williamson made up for it in the second half with more defensive contributions coming from the England captain to help Arsenal see out the win.

Steph Catley -- 5

Steph Catley played Liverpool onside for their equalising goal, being too far forward and leaving her centre half partner, Williamson, as the last outfield player available.

Things got better for Catley in the second half but things will have to change with their upcoming games. The defence has had some issues since the start of the season and there needs to be issues resolved.

Taylor Hinds -- 6

Hinds got injured during the second half of the game, but she was solid down that left hand side. The injury is unfortunate for Hinds as she is the only natural left back in the squad and with important fixtures coming up, she should hope to be back fit for midweek.

Kim Little -- 6

The Arsenal captain held total control of the game, and when she got taken off Arsenal became disjointed. It was Little's first game starting since her injury and her twenty minute cameo against Aston Villa but did she deserve to be dropped for Kyra Cooney-Cross who had been having an outstanding season?

Georgia Stanway -- 6

Georgia Stanway had a simple game, though her communication could do with some work as there are times where she does not know where the ball is supposed to end up. Stanway could have had an assist but the ball missed the net.

Lisa Baum -- 8

Lisa Baum got an assist to her name with Russo's second goal and made most of the attacks down the right hand side with Fox behind her. The two of them work well in tandem with each other and Baum was one of the best players on the pitch for the Gunners.

Caitlin Foord -- 5

Foord did not have a memorable game for Arsenal despite her recent performances for the Gunners, and she could have been replaced by somebody if Arsenal were not lacking wingers on the pitch.

Though the question could be asked of why not play Smilla Holmberg on the wing when it has been noticed that she does exceptionally well there?

Alessia Russo -- 9 (POTM)

The Russo brace sealed all three points for Arsenal and she was definitely the outstanding player on the pitch — without her Arsenal would not have won the game. She has now scored 9 goals in her past 7 games and she is the focal point for the Gunners.

Though is it now time for Arsenal and Renée Slegers to understand that playing Russo in the 9 is what is best for her, and for the team?

Olivia Smith -- 6

Smith playing in the 9 ahead of Russo is very clearly not working as she struggles to get into the right positions for crosses into the box and she simply does not get the shots off with her back to the net like Russo is able to so maybe the answer is moving Smith back to her natural winger position for Smith to get back into form.

Substitutes

Élisa de Almeida -- 6

De Almeida had a better game than Catley did but Arsenal had more determination in the second half to be defensively better. Arsenal should think about starting De Almeida in the centre back position because so far, she has not put a foot wrong.

Frida Maanum -- 7

Maanum back from her injury niggle that kept her out of the last few games from international break, she looked exciting and promising and like she wanted to help the Gunners find another goal to extend their lead in the game.

Kyra Cooney-Cross -- 7

Cooney-Cross was dropped from the starting line up for Little, and while it might have somewhat worked in the game because they saw out the 2-1 win, her performances do not differ.

Cooney-Cross is an exceptional talent for Arsenal and she should be one of the first names in the starting eleven.

Smilla Holmberg -- 7

Holmberg got to come on for Smith as a substitute for the first time in a while and showed why she is one of the best young talents that Arsenal have. Whether she is playing on the wing or in defence, Holmberg is one of the best in the Arsenal team.

Lotte Wubben-Moy -- N/A

Wubben-Moy barely played ten minutes for Arsenal therefore she does not get a rating.
