Atletico put €25m option for Jonathan David in focus

Atletico Madrid have reportedly decided they want to keep Juventus loanee Jonathan David beyond this season, after his strong start in Spain caught the club’s attention.

Football Italia and Gazeta Express relay reports from Spanish outlet Relevo that Atletico are planning a permanent move at the end of the 2026-27 campaign. The report is not confirmation of a completed transfer: David remains on loan, and the proposed purchase would still need to be completed with Juventus.

David has made an immediate impact in Madrid

David joined Atletico from Juventus during the summer transfer window on loan with an option to buy. That option is set at €25 million. Relevo reports that Atletico have already allocated that amount in next season’s budget, although the Spanish club may still try to negotiate the price with the Bianconeri.

The 26-year-old arrived in Turin on a free transfer from Lille and spent one season in Serie A. He recorded six goals and four assists in the league, but his early return in Madrid has been more striking: he has produced three goals and two assists across his first four LaLiga appearances, contributing to a goal in each match. It took him 19 Serie A appearances to reach that same combined tally.

Atletico’s reported intention gives Juventus a clearer indication of how David’s future could develop, though the €25m option is not yet an incoming fee. His departure from Turin and its potential implications for the club’s forward plans were already a point of discussion; a permanent move would make that question more concrete. Juventus’ striker planning around David’s future will depend on whether Atletico follow through.

€25m option remains the key figure

Relevo’s account points to Atletico being prepared to pay the existing €25m option, while leaving room for talks over the terms. The report also describes the club as setting aside that sum, but no agreement to trigger the clause has been announced.

Atletico are reportedly looking towards the end of the 2026-27 season for David’s permanent stay to be settled. They can pursue the stated option price or seek a revised arrangement with Juventus; until then, the striker’s performances in Madrid remain central to a decision that could shape the Bianconeri’s next move at centre-forward.
