Illinois high school football's 88-84 thriller: Every record, stat and score

The IHSA 6A first-round playoff matchup between Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy and Quincy Senior will go down in history as one of the best high school games ever.

The No. 9 Blue Devils pulled off a record-breaking 88-84 win over the No. 9 Knights to advance to the second round of the playoffs on Friday, Oct. 30, playing at two different venues.

Both teams combined for 172 points, which is the most ever for a single game, besting the previous record of 166 set on Oct. 29, 2021, when Springfield High School defeated Rock Island High School 94-72.

The 88 points by Quincy are the second-most points in a single IHSA high school football playoff game. That record is still held by Peoria High School, which beat Decatur Eisenhower 96-40 on Nov. 4 in an IHSA playoff second-round game.

Goode started the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run by Caron Williams, followed by a two-point conversion run by Aeden Cleveland with 8:51 remaining in the first quarter. From there, the teams traded blows back and forth all night.

The Blue Devils took their first lead of the night on the first possession of the second half when Dairean Brooks caught a 19-yard pass from Bryson Little for the score. Little's pass to Sawyer Harshberger on the two-point conversion made the score 66-60.

Here's a look at the stats from the game, courtesy of Muddy River Sports.
