New Zealand have made changes to their T20I squad for the remaining matches of the India series, with experienced fast bowler Matt Henry set to miss the final three games as the team manages its players’ workloads.

Henry will remain in Christchurch before joining New Zealand’s ODI squad in Auckland on November 2. The move is part of a broader plan to manage the workload of the team’s fast bowlers during a demanding international schedule.

Matt Henry to miss remaining T20Is against India

Henry’s departure from the T20I lineup is a significant change for New Zealand’s bowling attack. The experienced pacer bowled only two overs in the second match before leaving the field with a tight calf, according to captain Mitchell Santner.

The decision to withdraw him from the remainder of the series will allow New Zealand to manage his condition ahead of the upcoming ODI fixtures.

Henry remains an important part of the Black Caps’ pace attack, particularly because of his ability to swing the new ball and deliver disciplined spells. His availability for the ODI series will therefore be an important consideration for the team management.

The squad changes are not limited to Henry. New Zealand are also managing Lockie Ferguson and Kyle Jamieson, giving other fast bowlers an opportunity to contribute during the remaining T20Is.

Lockie Ferguson and Kyle Jamieson given different plans

Ferguson will miss the third T20I before rejoining the squad for the final two matches in Auckland and Hamilton. The fast bowler also left the field during the second game as a precaution, making workload management a priority.

Jamieson, meanwhile, will remain in Wellington following the third T20I. He is expected to represent Canterbury in the Ford Trophy before returning to New Zealand’s squad for the ODI series.

The decisions reflect the challenges of balancing international commitments with player fitness. New Zealand have a packed schedule ahead, including the remaining T20Is, a five-match ODI series and subsequent Test cricket.

Blair Tickner and Josh Clarkson ioin the Squad

To maintain depth in the bowling department, Blair Tickner will join the squad for the final three T20Is, while Josh Clarkson is expected to be available for the fourth and fifth matches.

Matt Fisher will travel with the team to Wellington as cover for the third T20I before returning to the New Zealand A squad.

New Zealand aim to bounce back after two defeats

New Zealand have been competitive in both opening matches but have been unable to close out the contests. India chased down 226 in the first T20I before completing another successful pursuit in Christchurch, with Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 51 off 25 balls proving decisive in the second match.

Santner’s side will need improved execution in the closing overs and stronger control during India’s run chases if they are to keep the series alive.

The third T20I will take place in Wellington on October 27, followed by matches in Auckland on October 30 and Hamilton on November 1.

With Henry unavailable for the remainder of the T20I series, New Zealand’s revised bowling combination will face an important test as they attempt to prevent India from taking an unassailable lead.
