Bayern Munich produces major talents that make the world’s biggest clubs pull out their wallets, but it doesn’t always work in those clubs’ favor. Last summer, it was reported that Premier League giants Manchester City were interested in snapping up Aleksandar Pavlović, but ultimately, the move never happened.

Captured by @iMiaSanMia, Pavlović opened up about his thought process and why he ultimately chose not to make the move to England. “First of all, it’s an honor when a top club like City comes calling. I grew up in Munich, I’ve spent my whole life here, and I’ve always played for FC Bayern. My family and friends live here, and for me, there’s nothing better than that. That’s why the decision wasn’t difficult,” he said. Per the same reports, City were supposedly prepared to offer up to 100 million euros to acquire the young midfielder—an amount they eventually surpassed by signing a replacement in Enzo Fernandez for 145 million euros.

That amount of money is no joke, and any player should be flattered to be valued at that level. Of course, we now know about City’s notorious relationship with money and their ongoing legal battles, but at this stage of Pavlović’s career, staying put was an incredible choice to make. Bayern fans are more than happy that he stayed and envision a long-term career for him in Munich.
