Ibrox Noise understands that Rangers want and are seriously considering a permanent signing for £15M Badredine Bouanani. As we know, the Algerian has recently exploded into Rangers’ first team following what appeared to be Algerian press pressure on Derek McInnes.
The on loan Stuttgart winger hadn’t appeared much at all for Rangers, with his main purpose supposedly being to get minutes. However, with the option to buy, the budget issue was certainly a question for Rangers.
But Derek McInnes made the switch against Dundee, and Bouanani had an outstanding match, as he has had since. He scored one excellent goal for Rangers, and his quality has been beyond doubt. He’s an Algerian international for a reason.
However, the big sticking point is the price. Rangers, of course, agreed to it, and it has been widely reported at £15M. That would be a Scottish record by some considerable distance.
But Rangers are considering making this deal permanent. The question is how the deal would be structured.
Rangers are said to be extremely unwilling to shell out that kind of cash on any one player at the moment. Especially one who hasn’t been a long term target, such as, for example, Lewis Ferguson.
£15M feels just a little bit too high unless it is someone Derek McInnes desperately wants.
So it would appear that Rangers will need to negotiate with Stuttgart to make this deal permanent. Crucially, the price must fit the Ibrox club’s pay structure.
Bouanani has shown his quality at Rangers since he finally managed to get his minutes. And the option to buy is crucial for Rangers who definitely want Badredine Bouanani.
It means the club can negotiate with Stuttgart, given Rangers want £15M Badredine Bouanani and he appears to have no major future. But he definitely has a future at Rangers if he wishes to stay.
The question is whether Andrew Cavenagh, Jim Gillespie and company can secure the right deal for Rangers. They must make this one financially viable.
Time will tell next summer if a deal can be struck to secure Badredine on a permanent basis. Ultimately, the cost must suit Rangers.
Because if it is true that £15 million is the current purchase clause, that is simply too high.
