Upper Wharfedale round off remarkable Nidderdale League rise

Switching from the Aire-Wharfe League in 2017, the club joined the Nidderdale League in Division Six, then went on a run of title-winning seasons, broken only by the pandemic, to achieve First Division status in 2023.

During that time, the club has extended its clubhouse, added an outside bar and developed a match sponsors’ room complete with viewing balcony, and now enjoys a level of support which is the envy of the league.

The latest development adds state-of-the-art nets at the Wood Lane pitch, where expert coaching is provided to players of all ages, including the expanding junior section.

Club captain Callum Lockett said: “This season’s success is a credit to the vision, enterprise and hard work of countless members and volunteers.

“With our second XI securing a comfortable mid-table position in Division Three and the development of our newly-established women’s team, the game of cricket in this part of the Dales has an exciting future.”
