"We're the clear favourites here" – Kovac demands Dortmund response against Sabah FK

Although Niko Kovac is wary of underestimating Sabah FK, the Borussia Dortmund coach has made it clear that his side are the favourites and must win when they face the Azerbaijani outfit in the Champions League on Tuesday.

After three games without a win, Borussia Dortmund are looking to get back on track when they visit Sabah FK in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Azerbaijani outfit will be buoyed by their 2-0 win over Slavia Prague last week, which marked their first-ever Champions League victory. But while Kovac believes that win shows why Dortmund can't afford to underestimate them, he is well aware that BVB are the favourites and must deliver a win.

“We’re taking the opponent seriously, especially since they won 2-0 here against Prague in their last game,” Kovac said at his pre-match press conference on Monday.

“We have to be sharp, and I hope that as the game goes on, we can show the qualities we undoubtedly possess. We’re the clear favorites here, and we want to – and must – win this game.”

One of Dortmund's main priorities will be to rediscover their scoring touch, having failed to find the back of the net in their last two outings.

“We have our plays in the final third to create danger. We haven’t been able to execute them in the last two games, which is why we haven’t scored," Kovac said.

“If we want to win, we have to score goals. We need to execute those plays. We have to play much faster, with more precision, and take more shots. Tomorrow we have to shoot on goal more often to maybe force a goal.”

The 55-year-old also hinted at rotation amid a busy schedule, with Dortmund's coaching staff set to assess the players' fitness before deciding on the starting lineup.

“We’ll have to see how the lads are doing. Today is the second day after the game, and we had a five-hour flight. Today we’ll check in with them a bit and see how one or the other player is feeling. After all, it’s also about bringing in fresh legs," he said.

Dortmund will definitely be without three players, as Konstantinos Karetsas has joined long-term absentees Emre Can and Giannis Konstantelias on the sidelines with a ligament injury.
