"The entire Argentine Football Association, led by President Claudio Tapia, sends its deepest condolences to our manager Lionel Scaloni and his family following the passing of his mother, Eulalia Marzetti. A warm embrace from all Argentines to 'El Gringo' and his loved ones during this painful time. Stay strong!" the governing body posted on X.

According to local reports, the 74-year-old Marzetti passed away on Tuesday in Pujato (Santa Fe province), Scaloni's hometown, following a battle with illness that began in 2021—a personal struggle the manager had previously spoken about during a press conference in the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.

"I am in no state to think about the World Cup," Scaloni admitted at the time. He would later dedicate the 2021 Copa America title to her, securing the first piece of major silverware in a glittering reign in charge of Argentina that went on to include the 2022 Finalissima, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the 2024 Copa America.
