Joey Logano has opened up on the terrifying reality his horrific crash at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday created for his children after returning to them "crying" following the race.

Logano, 36, was battling hard near the front of a tightly packed field in the closing laps of Stage 2 of the penultimate race of the NASCAR Chase Playoff when Carson Hocevar gave him a bump in the rear, getting him loose and sending him into the wall.

Logano's No. 22 Ford then went airborne after spinning and getting hit by Chase Briscoe, causing his car to flip completely upside down and slide for hundreds of feet along the asphalt of the tri-oval before coming to a stop.

The drama didn't stop there, however, as a massive 15-car pileup followed, triggering an immediate red flag that paused the race for roughly 13 minutes while safety crews uprighted Logano's car, as worried fans looked on.

Somehow, Logano managed to climb out of his vehicle unscathed, though only after safety crews had to flip his No. 22 back over onto its four tires, doing so under his own accord, much to the relief of the cheering crowd.

During a post-race interview with USA Sports, Herbst was seen wearing a soft cast on his left hand, with a bandage wrapped around his wrist and forearm, though he insisted he was "OK".

He later thanked his team on social media for getting him out of his car, adding that he was "just happy to be alive," though he has since come to appreciate just how terrifying his line of work can be and the impact it can have on his loved ones.

"I kept trying to connect my radios back in just to like say, 'Hey, I'm okay,' you know, but nobody knew I was okay cause the in-car camera went out, like everything went out when I flipped, so they're all thinking the worst, right?" Logano recalled during an appearance on "SPEED with Harvick and Buxton."

"Honestly, I got back to the bus and all my kids are crying and I'm like, 'Dad's okay!' Like, 'I'm good!'" he continued. "But there is an emotional task on, like, everybody. Not just the driver in a car, but there's a lot of people that I found out love me."

For Logano's children, seeing their father's car upside down was understandably frightening, regardless of how quickly he reassured them afterward, underscoring that their emotions are also on the line every time he races.

Logano and his wife, Brittany, have a family of five children, three of whom are biological - Hudson Joseph Logano (born in 2018, age 8), Jameson Jett Logano (born in 2020, age 6), and Emilia Logano (born in 2022, age 4).

The family, however, recently expanded with the adoption of two children they had previously fostered, though Logano and his wife have chosen to keep their names and ages private for now.

Nonetheless, Logano has a big family waiting for him every time he finishes a race, and thankfully, he gets to see another day despite his horror crash over the weekend, which could have ended far worse for him.
