Barnsley sign striker Tobi Adeyemo

Barnsley have announced the signing of former Watford forward Tobi Adeyemo on a one-year-deal, with a club option of a further year.

The 21-year-old came through the Hornets academy, having enjoyed loan spells at Hitchin Town, Wealdstone and Crawley.

The striker has some Championship experience, with a goal for Watford on his professional debut for the club.

Adeyemo featured twelve times for Crawley during his loan spell, scoring one goal.

He was on trial with the Reds, before signing a permanent deal.

Adeyemo told the club website: “It’s an amazing feeling to finally get this over the line, I just can’t wait to get started.

“Glad to get myself going again, and literally just happy to impress, and get this started.”

Head Coach, Daniel Stendel said: “We are pleased to welcome Tobi to Oakwell.

“To add more depth into the attacking positions is pleasing as we look to attack the busy schedule coming up.

“We have worked with Tobi during a trial period at the Club and look forward as a staff to continue working with him.”

Whilst we clearly need more options up front this is yet another underwhelming signing and I am being polite when I say that.

In truth, every striker that we have signed this summer has been absolutely terrible and I am convinced that this will be the same scenario.

One goal in 12 games for Crawley is not the calibre of player that we are looking for in our battle to remain in League One.

Having made his debut four years ago he has made a total of 23 senior appearances, seven of which were in non-league.

A mere two goals have come in those 23 appearances and I’m sure many other fans like myself will despair at yet more rubbish being brought into the club.

We have a squad full of unproven and quite frankly not good enough young players. We severely need reinforcements but if we are dipping into the free agent market then we need experienced players who we know can do the job at this level.

I truly despair with the transfer business at my beloved club at the moment. The owners are purely looking for the cheap option in the hope that they can unearth a star, something we have been good at in the past, however it now seems the spread sheet is corrupted.

I truly hope I am wrong about this signing and that he proves to be a big success. Unfortunately, I know that I won’t be wrong. That brings me anger and sadness that our owners have allowed us to free fall our way into a League One relegation fight.

We do have good players, and we do have players with experience but nowhere near enough to compete. It is unfair to put this pressure on so many young players, and the manager has really been hung out to dry.

The manager will likely pay the price for the board’s failings, but it is us fans who pay the ultimate price as we witness the demise of our club in front of our very eyes.

Anyway, onto Cambridge at home which I am not looking forward to one bit, but I will be there as always to support my team and no doubt have a moan afterwards.
