Leicester City only managed to secure under £1million from Trey Nyoni’s move to Liverpool, with the midfielder now in line for a new deal at Anfield.
The City academy prospect quit the club back in 2023 to link up with Liverpool’s youth system.
Due to his age, City were in line for a compensation fee which was due to be decided by an independent tribunal. But it has now been confirmed that Liverpool only ended up paying a modest fee for his services.
As per The Athletic, Liverpool paid just under £1million for Nyoni's services after his move just over three years ago.
Since then, he has enjoyed an eye-catching rise at Anfield. Nyoni, 19, has gone on to make 31 first-team appearances for Liverpool, 11 of which have come this season.
“Trey just has to continue in the same way as since the beginning of pre-season, be ready for all of the games,” Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola said recently. “We trust him, he’s doing very well. We have to encourage him to continue learning, improving and getting experience. But he’s in a very good place.”
It has also been reported that Nyoni is closing in on a new deal with Liverpool, with a breakthrough on extended terms expected soon.
That decision comes just months after Liverpool turned down a £30million bid from Nottingham Forest for the teenager.

Speaking to Leicestershire Live in 2024, City’s former loan manager and academy coach, Guy Branston, revealed that Nyoni’s talent was clear for everyone to see.
"He was already playing up and being highlighted as a serious player," Branston said. "I was asked to work with the U13s and U12s, to work with the coaches, to give them an idea of what the next PDP (Player Development Plan) would look like as a coach, so I worked with his manager at the time.
"Stuart McClarty was asking me to work with him regarding what the potential stage would look like in a few more years for these boys. Trey was involved in that group over a period of time. You’re watching him train at the training ground and you’re getting wind that he’s a super talent.
“You’re watching him play up and he’s still flagging up. Then since I’ve left, he’s stepped into the U16s and U18s and then watched him around the England set-up as well."
Nyoni is expected to receive more opportunities for Liverpool over the coming season, starting with Wednesday evening’s Champions League clash with Fenerbahce. But for City, it will remain a case of what could of been when it comes to the young midfielder.
