Manchester United have experienced an extraordinary turnover of managers since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, with another managerial departure potentially approaching.
David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim have all departed Old Trafford after failing to restore the club’s former dominance.
Michael Carrick initially appeared capable of breaking that cycle, guiding United to third place in the Premier League last season.
However, his permanent appointment has been followed by a disastrous start to the 2026/27 campaign, with just two victories in ten competitive matches.
United’s latest setback came against Leeds United on Sunday, when they surrendered a first-half lead to draw 1-1, extending their winless run to six matches.
Unless results improve imminently, Carrick could become the latest manager to lose his position at Old Trafford.
Interestingly, United completed the Premier League double over Crystal Palace last season under two different managers.
Amorim oversaw a 2-1 comeback victory at Selhurst Park in November, before Carrick’s side secured another 2-1 win at Old Trafford in March.
Now, Palace are considering turning to someone with considerable experience working behind the scenes at Manchester United.
According to The Guardian, former United coach Kieran McKenna is among the potential replacements for Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage.
Journalist Ed Aarons reports that Sage remains under serious scrutiny following Sunday’s humiliating 5-0 defeat against Brighton.
Palace have conceded 17 goals in seven Premier League matches, with chairman Steve Parish reportedly considering dismissing Sage immediately after the defeat.
However, the Frenchman has been granted more time, with Thursday’s Europa League clash against Besiktas and Sunday’s meeting with Newcastle potentially crucial.
McKenna, 40, previously managed United’s Under-18s before joining Mourinho’s first-team coaching staff in 2018, subsequently working alongside Solskjaer and Carrick.
He later achieved three promotions in four seasons with Ipswich Town, including consecutive promotions from League One to the Premier League.
McKenna left Ipswich in June and has since undertaken a UEFA technical observer assignment at Stamford Bridge, as Centre Devils previously reported.
Thomas Frank is another potential candidate, although Palace have not dismissed Sage or formally appointed a replacement.
