Week 8 NFL Power Rankings: A new top team emerges after chaotic week

We're seven weeks into the NFL season, and the year is nearing its midpoint. The AFC North and NFC North still look like the strongest divisions in football, and only one team remains undefeated at the top of the league.

This week, we have a new No. 1 team in our weekly Power Rankings after San Francisco and Kansas City both lost, and there's plenty more movement throughout the league as well. Let's dive right in.

The Vikings keep winning, and with both other undefeated teams taking losses this past week, we feel obligated to bump them to the top spot, even if a one-score win over the Colts doesn't feel like a massive victory. After all, it's not easy to avoid losses in the NFL.

The 49ers took their first loss of the season to the Falcons, but make no mistake: they are still among the league's best teams and the cream of the crop in the NFC. Now they'll enter their bye week, giving them a chance to nurse their wounds.

The Bills didn't play this past week, which helped them maintain their spot among the top three teams in these rankings. But a Week 8 showdown with a Ravens team with a chip on their shoulder will certainly affect whether they keep that spot next week.

The Broncos knocked off the Cardinals with ease this past weekend, and their divisional rival, ranked fourth last week, took an ugly loss as well, enough to bump Denver up one spot this week. Bo Nix looked like a star, and the Broncos now enter a crucial AFC West matchup with the Chiefs with momentum.

The Chiefs didn't look great on Sunday, with the Seahawks beating them by 17 points in primetime football. That dropped them one spot this week, but they'll have a chance to climb the rankings if they beat the Broncos in a clash between top-5 teams next weekend.
