The Premier League had to change their broadcasting plans this weekend

Why there's only one Premier League game on Sunday this weekend explained

  1. Initial scheduling: Broadcasters originally slated only two matches for Sunday - Aston Villa vs Fulham and Liverpool vs Arsenal. With no European football taking place in midweek, there was no need for additional games to be moved to Sunday.
  2. European commitments: However, Villa are in Champions League action this coming Tuesday when they head to Barcelona. As a result, their home match against Fulham needing moving forward.
  3. Rescheduled clash: Unai Emery's side therefore play host to Alvaro Arbeloa's Fulham at 8pm on Saturday instead. That leaves just the blockbuster clash between Liverpool and Arsenal at 4.30pm on Sunday.
  4. Monday Night Football: There is another game to round out gameweek nine in the Premier League, which comes on Monday when Newcastle host Everton. They played each other in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
  5. TV coverage: All of Aston Villa vs Fulham, Liverpool vs Arsenal and Newcastle vs Everton will be shown live on Sky Sports, as well as the Saturday 5.30pm kick-off between Tottenham and Crystal Palace.
