MILLWALL boss Alex Neil felt the referee “probably” made the wrong decision not to penalise Lincoln for a handball in the build-up to their second goal, but insisted his side should have defended the situation better in their 2-2 draw at The Den.
The assistant referee missed a clear handball in the build-up to Rob Street’s goal, with the striker powering the ball between Filip Marschall’s legs and into the net.
“We don’t get down the line of the cross quickly enough either,” Neil said. “Although you’re right, it should be a foul, because he’s handballed it, and more importantly, stopped the ball from going out of play.
“I don’t look at that and think, ‘Oh, the referee’s terrible.’ Was it the wrong decision? Probably. Should we defend it? Absolutely.”
Lincoln had taken the lead inside 30 seconds. A long ball forward was followed by Jake Cooper clearing a cross, but the ball fell to Andrei Coubis, who volleyed into the far corner from well outside the box.
“The first throw-in comes in, we head it out, and our wide player goes to the wrong side of their player and tries to run up the pitch, and we’ve not even got the ball,” Neil said. “There are just elements at the moment that are a little bit too loose that we need to be better at.”
Millwall fought back after the break, with Kyrell Lisbie and Cooper scoring to earn the Lions a point.
