Tottenham Hotspur have been on a roll in recent weeks, registering three wins on the bounce to overcome their disastrous start to the season. Wins over Coventry City, Chelsea and Crystal Palace have seen Spurs climb into the top half of the table.
Destiny Udogie missed the games against Coventry City and Chelsea with a minor knee injury before returning to action as a substitute in the win over Crystal Palace last weekend. The left-back has endured another injury-ravaged start to the season, starting only two Premier League games. This is despite the 23-year-old enjoying a full summer break due to Italy’s non-participation at the World Cup.
Roberto De Zerbi also recently expressed his frustrations with Destiny Udogie’s fitness issues as he hopes to work with the defender for several weeks in a row. Summer signing Andy Robertson has covered extremely well for the Italian international, who cannot be relied upon to stay fit. Recent reports suggest Tottenham could be willing to cash in on Udogie next year if a substantial offer is tabled.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Sport, Tottenham are among several Premier League clubs monitoring Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde ahead of the January window.
Alejandro Balde had an opportunity to leave Barcelona in the summer, and Manchester United were keen on his services. Eventually, he stayed put at his boyhood club, although the left-back has struggled for minutes this season. The Spanish international endured an injury-hit start to the season, and when he returned, he found himself behind Joao Cancelo and Xavi Espart in the pecking order.
As a result, Balde has yet to start a game this season, amassing only 124 minutes across five appearances. Both the 23-year-old and his agent have realised he’s unlikely to be a regular under Hansi Flick, and thus, it would be in his best interest to leave Barcelona in the winter transfer window.
The report adds that the Spanish champions are open to listening to offers for Balde at around €40m. Jorge Mendes, the left-back’s agent, has started working behind the scenes and offering his client to multiple clubs. The super-agent prefers a loan with a buy option clause. Juventus and AS Roma have also contacted Mendes to understand details of a potential transfer, but Balde’s first option is the Premier League.
🚨 #FCBarcelona Manchester United are considering a move for Alejandro Balde as they look to add more competition and depth at left-back.

🔄 Barcelona are understood to be open to evaluating the defender's future if a sale would help fund other transfer priorities.

Balde’s talent and appeal are obvious. The Spaniard offers recovery speed, energy, width and athleticism that would make him a solid fit in De Zerbi’s system. At just 23, Balde has made over 170 senior appearances and won multiple trophies with Barcelona.
The left-back has had few injury problems in the last couple of seasons, yet he managed a combined 89 appearances in all competitions. Balde would be an upgrade on Udogie, whilst bringing winning mentality and top-level experience to Spurs. A left-back with his pace and pedigree could transform the Lilywhites’ defence.
A loan with an option, or even conditions that become an obligation, would give Tottenham room to assess whether Balde fits into De Zerbi’s system and the demands of English football. With several other Premier League clubs in the race, Spurs should be proactive in signing the Barcelona defender.
