Savio, Porro, Bergvall, Mudryk and Xavi - Tottenham injury updates and return dates
Savio is set to miss a number of Tottenham Hotspur matches after suffering a muscle injury

Just when Roberto De Zerbi gets one of his Tottenham players back from the treatment room so he loses another.

Spurs have returned from a four-night warm weather training camp in Marbella but for all the good vibes that trip to the continuent would have brought in bonding the team together, injuries continue to be a problem for the north London club. There was however some good news for De Zerbi at his press conference on Sunday morning with one long-term injury absentee to return for Monday night's home game against Coventry City.

Here's the latest news and potential return dates for the seven Tottenham players who have been in and around the treatment room.

Savio

A new addition to the Spurs injury list just when the £85million winger was starting to find his feet at his new club.

De Zerbi revealed the news on Sunday at Hotspur Way, saying: "Savio. Unfortunately Savio on Tuesday, yes Tuesday the first day in our training ground before we leave for Marbella, he felt a muscular problem. We lost him for some weeks unfortunately, but (it’s) like this."

When football.london checked later in the press conference whether 'some weeks' meant a lot of weeks, De Zerbi grimaced and then paused before saying without much optimism: "I don't know, but some weeks for sure."

Return date: Unknown but it doesn't sound like any time soon.

Dejan Kulusevski

Dejan Kulusevski is set to make his return to a matchday squad on Monday night after 527 days out of the game.

The Swede has been out since May last year after suffering a complicated injury to the patella in his right knee during a Premier League match against Crystal Palace. The 26-year-old faced a couple of setbacks during his recovery which meant he missed the entirety of last season as well as the World Cup this summer.

Now after getting a good block of training under his belt Kulusevski is set to make his long-awaited return.

football.london asked De Zerbi what that moment was like to tell the Swede that he was back in the squad after so long.

"Yesterday, after the training, I spoke with him and I said to him 'I spoke with the medical staff and they gave me the okay' and he smiled like this (does a big grin)," he said

"And we are happy. We are very, very happy. It's not football. I'm not speaking about football. Okay, he's a special player, but we are speaking about different things. He suffered a lot and his reaction was great."

He added: "So yes, Kulusevski on the bench. We had a meeting with the medical staff. They gave the OK and it's great news.

"I think it's one of the best news after Everton game last season because Deki he suffered too much. He deserves to feel emotion on the pitch."

The player himself announced on Instagram on Sunday: "And I see you tomorrow. I told you I would be back. Now is the time."

Return date: October 19 vs Coventry.

Lucas Bergvall

Another new name for the injury list, Lucas Bergvall was conspicuous by his absence from the most recent training photos and video after starting in the draw at Manchester United.

De Zerbi duly gave an update on the 20-year-old Swede at Sunday's press conference.

"Lucas Bergvall [is out] because he had a problem at the beginning of the game in Manchester. The first chance we created with Solanke, when he (Bergvall) regained the ball, his knee, he felt pain and finished the game, but the day after Manchester, Sunday, he came to training ground to our medical staff. And I think two weeks [out]."

Return date: Potentially October 31 vs Crystal Palace.

Pedro Porro

Tottenham's World Cup winner had only just returned from a muscular issue when he suffered a hamstring injury 15 minutes into the defeat against Aston Villa.

Porro declared on social media that he is "almost back" from injury while posting a remarkable video showing his physical prowess. It was of the right-back in what appeared to be Tottenham's revamped Hotspur Way first team gym, leaping up from a sitting position on to a plyometric box that is as high as his chest.

football.london reported last month that the Spaniard could be back either for the game against Coventry or Tottenham playing it safe and giving him another five days before the trip across the capital to Chelsea.

We asked De Zerbi on Sunday and he confirmed which one it was, saying: "Pedro, I think he's coming. Maybe in Chelsea he can play."

Return date: October 24 vs Chelsea

Mykhailo Mudryk

football.london broke the news that Mykhailo Mudryk had suffered an ankle injury in training and would be out for anywhere between four to eight weeks after making just one appearance for Spurs.

De Zerbi confirmed that news at his press conference later in the week, saying: "'It was a stupid injury to Mudryk, and we hope he comes back as soon as possible. Playing without tackle, without different movement, he felt pain in the ankle, and then after two days, he made the medical check. We already knew it could be difficult to come back [immediately] as a normal player."

The 25-year-old remains in recovery and is doing everything possible with physios and the medical staff to try to return.

Return date: Hopefully before the international break.

Wilson Odobert

Odobert ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament 35 minutes into the Premier League match against Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on February 10.

The France under-21 international had made 33 appearances for the north London club with five assists and two goals before the injury in Thomas Frank's final match for the club. It meant Odobert would not play for caretaker boss Igor Tudor and more importantly De Zerbi.

It's eight months into his rehabilitation now and Odobert will now be in the latter phases of his recovery. It may not be too long before we see the winger back in training.

Return date: The usual nine-month timeframe points towards a return next month.

Xavi Simons

Xavi is also on Tottenham's list of ACL injuries when he went down against Wolves at Molineux. Like Odobert, the 23-year-old has youth on his side and that could contribute to a quicker return than normal as things heal that little bit faster when you've got time on your side.

Xavi suffered the injury on April 25 and the nine-month timeline would put him as being back in training around January. The Dutchman will be working hard to try to be back sooner but will also need to be wary of coming back too soon and risking a re-tear.

De Zerbi put Xavi in his Premier League squad over the fit Richarlison, which was sending a message to all concerned and also hinting that he believes his playmaker might not be as long as we all think.

Reports in the Netherlands claimed the midfielder won't be back until February but Xavi may have other ideas.

Return date: Late January with the usual timeline but Xavi will try to beat that.
