Wembanyama denied! Amen Thompson’s last-second block seals Houston victory

The Houston Rockets did more than improve to 2-0 on Friday night. They delivered an early-season statement against a San Antonio Spurs team that had given them plenty of problems, and Amen Thompson provided the signature moment. With the Spurs trailing by four and a chance to force overtime on the line, Thompson stood between Victor Wembanyama and the basket. The San Antonio superstar tried to create space on a post-up and get off a game-tying shot, but Thompson stayed in front of him and swatted the attempt away. The block sealed Houston’s 114-110 victory, capping a defensive stand that could carry significance well beyond the second game of the 2026-27 NBA season.
