Jalen Hurts’ health scare has become the biggest story in the NFL following the news that broke earlier in the week about his season-ending blood clot diagnosis.
The Philadelphia Eagles have endured a horrific start to the season which has now been topped off by the health scare suffered by their quarterback. Hurts is now undergoing treatment after being told he has blood clots in his lungs.
Questions are now being asked why Hurts was even allowed to travel and play in the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. The quarterback is not only going to miss the rest of the season for the Eagles but there are serious health concerns at play.
Former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy has spoken to some of the people he still knows inside the building in Philadelphia and shared what has been said in the days since Hurts’ diagnosis was revealed.
McCoy spent a number of years in Philadelphia after the Eagles drafted him in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft with the 53rd overall pick. Despite leaving the team in 2014, McCoy has used the contacts he still has left inside the building to get the lowdown on Hurts’ situation.
“I have talked to some guys over there, and I heard this. They said that Jalen Hurts went to the training room and said, “Hey man, I think I got a cleat into my calf during the game”,” said McCoy on the Speakeasy podcast.
“The doctors started doing treatment on him, and then I guess it didn’t get a little better. The next day, I think they did some testing on it. I think that’s how it really happened, and he found out that he was really injured.

“I’m just curious and confused about this part. Once they found out what it was, why was he travelling, better yet, if he had to stay up for 36 hours because I guess with blood clots you want to keep moving, etc., why’d you let him play in the game?”
There has been a lot to take in with the developing situation surrounding Hurts’ health but serious questions are being raised around the team’s decisions over in London. Although the Eagles have not enjoyed a positive start to the season, no player’s health is worth risking for the sake of another win on the board.
Tanner McKee played at quarterback on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers and put on a respectable showing but he will not be able to match the heroics shown by Hurts over the years.
