Rangers will be parting ways with an important senior figure who has spent a total of 17 years at Ibrox.
There have been a lot of backroom changes in recent months, and this is the latest development at the club.
While Andrew Cavenagh will be pleased with what has been happening on the pitch, he continues to overhaul the setup behind the scenes.
The defender is one of the best in Scotland…
Steven Mundell has confirmed that he is set to part ways with Rangers following his second stint at the club. He rejoined the Light Blues in September 2021 and will now be leaving for pastures new.
Mundell’s primary involvement was with the club’s academy, where he served as Youth & Professional Development Phase Coach. His role was to bridge the gap between academy football and the first team, giving the youngsters the necessary support to take that step up.
His first stint at Ibrox was a longer one, which began in October 2005, seeing him work for two years as a Community Coach, before getting promoted to another coaching role. Mundell was then the Foundation & Youth Development Phase Coach, similar to the position he currently holds, and remained at the Govan outfit until July 2017.
After leaving Rangers, he joined Rotherham United for two years, and he then also moved to China for a couple of years to work as the Head of Coaching in the Football Performance Academy of Chongqing No. 7 High School.
On 14 October, he released a statement confirming his exit. He wrote: “After an incredible 5 years, I’m moving on from Rangers Football Club.
“Having spent 17 years at the club across two spells, Rangers has been a huge part of my coaching journey. I’m incredibly grateful to all the staff and players I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
“While it’s never easy to leave, I’m excited for the new challenge and adventure ahead.”
