Aston Villa aim to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night when they take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Unai Emery’s side saw off Coventry City in the third round of the competition, winning 3-1 at the CBS Arena thanks to a brace from Tammy Abraham, either side of Ross Barkley’s header before half-time.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, thrashed Championship side Lincoln City 4-0 at home and head into the game against Villa on the back of successive 3-0 wins over AC Milan and Manchester United.

Both teams are expected to make changes, with Villa also in strong form, having won six of their last seven matches and ended Manchester City’s perfect start to the league season last time out.

Villa and Bournemouth will also both play in Europe next week as they balance a packed schedule of domestic and European commitments.

For Villa, Marco Bizot will likely start in goal, just as he did against Coventry last month. In defence, Lamare Bogarde could start at right-back to give Matty Cash a rest, while Taylor Harwood-Bellis is also likely to be given the opportunity to start.

Alongside the summer recruit, Tyrone Mings and Ian Maatsen - the only fit left-back in the squad - could complete the back four.

In midfield, Ross Barkley could partner Leon Goretzka in the double pivot, allowing Boubacar Kamara and Joao Gomes to rest.

There could then be four changes in attack, with Ibrahim Mbaye, Emi Buendia and George Hemmings all coming into the starting line-up to support Brian Madjo up front.

Alejandro Garnacho is another option for Emery, having appeared to turn a corner during the extended international break, although he has still seen limited minutes in recent weeks.

Predicted Villa XI: Bizot; Bogarde, Harwood-Bellis, Mings, Maatsen; Goretzka, Barkley; Mbaye, Buendia, Hemmings; Madjo.
