Barcelona are at risk of missing out on one of their works as Liverpool have added him to their transfer wishlist.

Barcelona’s defensive recruitment remains an important part of Hansi Flick’s plans as the Catalan club look to build a squad capable of competing for major honours.

The German manager’s high defensive line demands centre-backs who are comfortable on the ball, quick enough to recover and composed under pressure.

Finding players who meet those requirements without overspending remains a challenge for Barcelona’s recruitment team.

Liverpool have entered the race for Stuttgart defender Finn Jeltsch, potentially complicating Barcelona’s pursuit of the highly rated 20-year-old.

According to Sport, via Sport Witness, the Premier League club could be better positioned to negotiate with Stuttgart if Barcelona refuse to meet the German side’s reported €60 million valuation.

Finn Jeltsch joined Stuttgart from 1. FC Nurnberg in February 2025 and has steadily established himself in German football.

Despite injury problems last season, he made 17 Bundesliga starts, accumulating approximately 1,506 minutes on the pitch.

His progress has continued this campaign, with the defender recording 809 minutes across 10 league appearances.

His development has attracted interest from several major European clubs, with Barcelona among those monitoring his situation.

However, Stuttgart’s reported asking price could prove decisive.

Their valuation has reportedly increased from €35 million to €45 million before reaching the latest figure of €60 million.

With Jeltsch contracted until 2030, the Bundesliga club are under little pressure to sell cheaply.

Liverpool’s interest comes as they assess their long-term defensive options.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez could both face contract uncertainty in 2027, prompting the club to consider potential reinforcements.

The Reds are also reportedly considering making Ronald Araujo’s loan move from Barcelona permanent through a €55 million purchase clause.

Although Jeltsch and Araujo both primarily play at centre-back, Liverpool could pursue multiple defensive additions if their recruitment plans require it.

Reports suggest Liverpool value Jeltsch at around €50 million, potentially giving them an advantage if Barcelona refuse to match Stuttgart’s demands.

Real Madrid have also been linked with the German prospect, adding further competition.

For Barcelona, the challenge is deciding whether Jeltsch justifies such a substantial investment or whether a more affordable alternative would better suit their financial situation.

No agreement has been confirmed, but Liverpool’s involvement could make the pursuit considerably more complicated.
