Following their relegation to the Championship last season, Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to bounce back at the first opportunity, and whilst things are going badly at Molineux right now, there are some worrying signs that suggest a slip isn't too far away.

Wolves, undoubtedly, have one of the best sides in the Championship right now, especially on paper, capable of boasting the likes of Jose Sa, Ladislav Krejčí, Kieran Trippier, Andre, Fer Lopez, and Raul Jimenez, to name a handful.

Portuguese head coach Cesar Peixoto has been tasked with guiding the Old Gold back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and as things stand, it could be going a lot worse for the 43-year-old.

However, whilst results have more often than not been going their way, there are some indications that that may not last for much longer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have a potential striker issue emerging right now

For a side fighting for a league title, home form must be impeccable, and for Wolves, that hasn't quite been the case so far this season.

Although they have recorded victories over Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, and Watford, they have failed to beat any of Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, or Portsmouth, raising legitimate alarm bells at Molineux, as these are sides the Old Gold would ordinarily be expecting to beat.

Up top, Raul Jimenez has been out of action since picking up an injury against Everton in the EFL Cup in mid-September, as Adam Armstrong has filled that vacancy with little success since, scoring just twice in ten league appearances, whilst Sean Neave has yet to be given a proper run of games to prove his worth.

Wolves need a clinical goalscorer and someone who can take the scruff of games by the neck, as they ought to be targeting a player who has already netted against them this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers should target Europe's most clinical striker in Blackburn Rovers' Andri Gudjohnsen this January

Blackburn Rovers striker Andri Gudjohnsen is a player who has been hitting the headlines for all the right reasons as of late, with the Icelandic forward in the form of his life.

The son of former Barcelona, Chelsea, and Stoke City forward Eidur Gudjohnsen, Andri has scored eight goals and grabbed one assist in just 11 league appearances for Blackburn so far, trailing only Middlesbrough's Will Lankshear in the race for the Championship golden boot.

According to Not The Top 20 Podcast, Gudjohnsen is statistically the most clinical striker in Europe's top ten leagues right now, with eight goals from just 16 shots, meaning the Icelandic international is averaging a goal every two shots.

Of course, there are obvious question marks regarding whether this form can be sustained for the entirety of the season, but with football in his blood and ice-cold finishing not a question, the 24-year-old is bound to be on the shortlist of numerous clubs across Europe, as Wolves must pounce whilst they can.

Andri Gudjohnsen is having an incredible season with Blackburn Rovers, who will not want to lose the striker at any cost

Naturally, Blackburn will have little intention of parting ways with Gudjohnsen anytime soon.

The 43-capped Icelandic international, who spent time in the youth system of both Barcelona and Real Madrid, is under contract at Ewood Park until the summer of 2028, with Blackburn possessing the option to extend for a further year if they wish.

Plying his trade for the likes of Norrkoping, Lyngby, and Gent before his move to Blackburn, Gudjohsen headed to Ewood Park in the summer of 2025 for a mere €2 million (£1.6 million), which now looks like an absolute bargain.

With just seven goals in 25 league appearances last season, Gudjohnsen has taken his game to the next level, and though Blackburn will want to keep the Icelandic hitman around by any means necessary, they will also hope he continues to find the back of the net at a similar rate to further increase his stock in case a lucrative sale becomes unavoidable.

What do you make of Gudjohnsen's form for Blackburn right now? Would he be a good fit for Wolves, or should they be looking elsewhere? If so, how much should Wolves spend on the forward? Share your thoughts below!

By the time the January transfer window rolls around, it will become increasingly clear whether a new centre-forward is a necessity or not at Molineux.

If Jimenez's injury woes continue, and neither Armstrong nor Neave are hitting the back of the net regularly, Wolves and Peixoto must bite the financial bullet and stump up the money for Gudjohnsen.

Still only 24 but nearing a half-century of caps for his nation, Gudjohnsen has ample time to iron out the weaknesses in his game, and with the raw ability to become one of the very best strikers in Europe, Wolves should be looking to get first dibs on the next potential great centre-forward.
