Liverpool has made a good start under Andoni Iraola, but it would be fair to say that his roster still needs strengthening. Whether in January or beyond, more depth is required.
The Reds also have a lot of contract decisions to make, with Virgil van Dijk among those who are only tied down until the end of the season. New Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward has plenty on the agenda.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. We start with a defender who has been linked with a move to Anfield before.
Chelsea is set to offer Levi Colwill a new contract because clubs including Liverpool are keeping an eye on him, according to TeamTalk.
Colwill has previously been on Liverpool's radar and was the subject of interest from Brighton too. However, he has since established himself at Stamford Bridge and is impressing under Xabi Alonso.
Last penning new terms in 2023, Colwill is now 23 years of age. Liverpool may need to look for more defenders in the future with Van Dijk now 35 and yet to pen a contract extension.
Jeremy Jacquet has impressed this term, though he was poor in the Champions League against Fenerbahce, while Giovanni Leoni remains very highly rated despite the Italian having been out for more than a year with a knee injury.
Liverpool also has an option to buy Ronald Araujo from Barcelona next summer for a fee of around $63 million (£47 million) at the end of his season-long loan.
Liverpool.com says: Colwill is excellent, but Chelsea selling him is very unlikely. He appears to be settled under Alonso.
Conveniently, just after he scored against Liverpool in the Champions League this week, Fenerbahce defender Archie Brown, who was born in Birmingham, is being linked with a move to Anfield.
A report from TeamTalk claims that the Reds are among a number of teams watching his situation, alongside Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle, Everton, Brighton and several other sides around Europe.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
AC Milan was said to be interested in Brown during the summer, though a move worth around $20 million (£15 million) did not materialize. He previously played in Belgium with Gent and the Swiss side Lausanne after starting out at Derby County.
