Everton lost their first game of the season to Chelsea this afternoon.
David Moyes was heavily criticised for his team selection and substitutions, with Merlin Rohl getting the nod on the right wing over Tyrique George.
Everton were really blunt in attack, and the game was crying out for a bit of quality in the final third, which Tyler Dibling could’ve brought.
Moyes opted for Brennan Johnson instead, and that change was completely ineffective, so the Scotsman certainly has to take some responsibility for the defeat.
With that said, I’ve picked out the five best comments on TalkingPoints which sum up the game well.

Just no quality in front of goal. Barry simply HAS to score that header

Ptrckbennett felt 2-0 was a harsh scoreline and he quite rightly highlighted James Tarkowski’s performance, as the towering centre-back didn’t deserve to be on the losing side today.

Jamie.theodosi felt a clean sheet was never a likely outcome today, so the Toffees should’ve been more ambitious going forward.

Not an entirely surprising result despite Everton’s record. Chelsea are one of the most dangerous teams in the league going forward. If you can’t keep up with them in your own attacking play then you’ll likely find yourself chasing the game

Callum_jones and Freddie were far from impressed by Christian Norgaard’s debut as he looked miles off the pace. In fairness, the summer signing is only just coming back from injury, and it was a bizarre moment for Moyes to bring him off the bench.

It’s now back to the drawing board for Moyes and his players before they return to action on Saturday afternoon against the reigning Premier League champions Arsenal.
The Merseysiders are away from home at the Emirates, so it’s probably the toughest fixture of the season.
Although, Everton gave them a cracking game last year and were unlucky to lose, so they have good reason to be confident of getting a result in the capital.
