President Donald Trump gushed over Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid - and even gave Travis Kelce a shoutout. Trump, 80, is a lifelong football fan, claiming he played tight end at New York Military Academy before calling it quits,

The President hasn't been shy to offer his fair share of NFL predictions, with some spectacularly backfiring, while also not being shy to deliver a verbal dress-down to his detractors inside the sport. However, one NFL player who has always had Trump's unwavering affection is three-time Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Mahomes.

Trump is admittedly a big Mahomes fan and was also a staunch defender of the quarterback's wife, Brittany, who drew backlash ahead of the 2024 Presidential election. As for Reid, Trump was in disbelief when he became available after leaving the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, having coached the franchise for 14 years.

Reid joined the Chiefs for the following season and only missed playoff football twice in 13 seasons in charge. He has led the team to five Super Bowls, three of those resulting in wins. Trump also gave Kelce a short but sweet shoutout.

"Well, I think Mahomes is great. I watch the games as much as I can, but I think he's, he knows how to win," Trump told KCMO.

"I see those little wispy passes under somebody's arms. You have a six-foot-six guy running up with the arms up, and he throws it in between his armpits and, you know, under the armpit. I think he's a great quarterback."

"I think you have a great tight end. You have a really, and you know what you have? You have a great coach," Trump continued. "That guy, I followed Andy Reid when he was in Philadelphia. He won. I couldn't believe when Philadelphia got rid. I don't know. Maybe he left. I don't know. I would imagine because he did great in Philadelphia too. Didn't win quite the big one, but now he has."

However, Reid has landed himself in fresh controversy in Kansas City. The Chiefs are 5-1 in 2026, having missed the playoffs last season. Yet their feel-good start to the campaign took a sour turn, with Chiefs fans left fuming over the practice-squad signing of controversial kicker Justin Tucker.

Justin Tucker controversy

Tucker was accused of sexual misconduct by more than a dozen female massage therapists from spas and wellness centers in the Baltimore area. The kicker strongly and consistently denied all allegations of sexual misconduct.

Though Tucker never faced criminal charges, the allegations led to his release by the Baltimore Ravens in May 2025 and a 10-game suspension by the NFL under its personal conduct policy.

Reid faced a five-minute grilling from reporters this week over the signing of Tucket. However, Coach Reid insisted that the franchise did its "homework" on the player.
