"Look, a bad day at the office for us. We'll dust ourselves down."

Yeovil Town manager Billy Rowley admitted that the Glovers were beaten by the better side as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Halifax Town on Saturday.

Yeovil failed to score for the first time this season as they went down to a 2-0 defeat at FC Halifax Town, ending the game with 10 men after a red card for Archie Davies.

Cody Johnson’s free-kick beat goalkeeper Jos Barker at his near post just before the hour to give Halifax the lead, and Will Flint turned home a close range finish to make it 2-0. Davies saw red soon after when he was sent off for a second bookable offence on 69 minutes.

"First and foremost, beaten by the better team today," Rowley said to BBC Radio Somerset. "No qualms about that at all. We had a couple of moments in the first half and we created some half decent counter-attacks, but their game plan was obviously go man-for-man all over the pitch, very hard to get any rhythm, and generally speaking the team that kind of wants it more in those games will usually come out on top.

"It was a bit of a bit of an ugly game, but full credit to Halifax. They were better than us today in most facets of the game. So yeah, no slight on them.

"Look, a bad day at the office for us. We'll dust ourselves down. We'll not be too low on this, although definitely need some things we need to work on the improvement, and at the end of the day, I can't really fault the lad's effort today. I think we ran hard, but just putting our bodies on the line and really trying to fight for everything,

"But I think everybody connected with players and coaches here will know we're not overly happy with our performance and and we'll be wanting to give more next week."

The defeat saw Yeovil drop down to fifth in the National League table with leaders Boreham Wood, who come to Huish Park in the league next weekend now 12 clear of anyone at the top and 16 ahead of the Glovers. But before then, Rowley's men have the FA Cup to look forward to this Saturday and a trip to League Two Chesterfield as they look to cause the upset.
