The FIA has confirmed it will be taking no further action against a raft of drivers who lapped too slowly in qualifying for the United States Grand Prix.
Esteban Ocon, Oscar Piastri, George Russell, Kimi Antonelli and Franco Colapinto were referred to the stewards for exceeding the maximum delta (lap time) at the Circuit of the Americas.
In a statement, the stewards said all drivers had driven at sufficient speeds for much of the laps in question, but had slowed down significantly so as not to impede other drivers, meaning they did not drive “unnecessarily slowly”.
Starting on pole, Antonelli could clinch the world championship with a win in Texas, but will have Max Verstappen hot on his heels going into the first corner, after the Dutchman filled out the first row.
